Job adverts rise to pre-pandemic levels

Last week, England entered the next stage of the government’s roadmap out of lockdown and with non-essential shops able to open, and pubs, restaurants and cafes allowed to start serving people outside.

Businesses are starting to move on from the immediate effects of Brexit and the pandemic. The ONS released data showing that job adverts have returned to pre-pandemic levels for the first time since the crisis began. The increase in vacancies posted are thought to be boosted by the reopening of non-essential shops, pubs and client-facing services.

Job vacancies posted are now at the same level as February 2020, improving in 16 out of the 28 industries measured. The areas where biggest jumps were construction, legal and hospitality.

On average it can cost up to £10,000 to recruit a new employee, and that’s when you get it right! Getting it wrong however can cost your business up to 3 times that amount. Prior to employment, employees still attract the protection of the law even before an offer of employment is made to them. By using the right process, it limits the legal challenges and helps minimise mistakes often made in the recruitment process.
