Your chance to grill Carlisle MP John Stevenson

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel the networking lunch with John Stevenson, Conservative MP for Carlisle, because of the General Election.

It had been due to take place on Friday November 8th at the Halston Aparthotel in Carlisle.

The Chamber is contacting businesses who have booked to refund monies paid.

Chamber Chief Executive Rob Johnston said: “It’s disappointing to have to cancel but we can’t go ahead given there is a General Election on December 12th.

“Parliament is being dissolved on November 6th which means that, by the time of the lunch, John Stevenson will no longer be an MP.

“Chambers of Commerce are politically neutral. It would be wrong to give a platform to one particular candidate at the start of a General Election campaign.

“We very much hope to re-arrange the lunch in the New Year with the new MP, whoever is elected.”

The Chamber will be publishing a Manifesto for Business shortly, setting out our ask of the next government.

We are also planning a series of podcast interviews with Cumbrian Parliamentary candidates and an online virtual hustings where businesses can submit questions to the candidates directly.

More details to follow.

For queries regarding refunds for the John Stevenson event, email the Chamber’s Business Development Manager, Derek Armstrong, at derek@cumbriachamber.co.uk or call 07841 743066.
