Overwater Basses is recognised internationally as one of the world’s leading makers of hand-made custom electric bass guitars. We make basses for many professional players, including most of the players in London’s West End musical theatre shows. If you listen to music or watch tv, you will more than likely have heard one of our basses being played!
We currently have a vacancy through the Kickstart scheme for someone to join our small, friendly team in our Carlisle workshop as a Trainee Workshop Assistant.
This traineeship would suit someone who has a real enthusiasm for music and a genuine interest in musical instrument production.
The successful candidate will receive supervised training in some of the basic elements of electric bass guitar manufacture, including woodworking, finishing and assembly, as well as experience in more general aspects of being part of a workshop team, including helping to keep the workshop and public areas clean, tidy and safe.
If we find a candidate who has the right skillset, enthusiasm and aptitude for the work, we will consider the possibility of offering them a place as an Apprentice Instrument Maker after the six-month Kickstart Traineeship ends.
Please note: because of the amount of wood dust, you will be required to wear a dust mask during much of this work. If you have any type of breathing/lung issues, or are not able to wear a face mask for any reason at all, this placement is unlikely to be suitable for you.
Also note: as we have several vulnerable members of the team, it is our policy only to consider candidates who have been – or are willing to be – vaccinated against COVID-19.
