Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth served as Patron of British Chambers of Commerce, which presides over a network of 53 Chambers across the UK, of which Cumbria Chamber is a part. In this role, Her Majesty gave her valued support to Chambers in their endeavour to champion and support British businesses.

Queen Elizabeth took the throne in 1952 at the age of 25 and reigned for over 70 years, making her the longest standing British monarch. A much loved and respected figure around the world, Queen Elizabeth carried out hundreds of engagements each year from receptions with foreign dignitaries, to presenting medals for military service, and royal visits across the UK and Commonwealth.

In a famous speech on her 21st birthday in Cape Town, South Africa, Queen Elizabeth proclaimed: “I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.” She most certainly did just that.

Cumbria Chamber would like to thank Her Majesty for her service to the people and businesses of Cumbria and the UK. Our thoughts and condolences are with the Royal Family, and the Queen’s close friends, at this difficult time.
