Cumbria’s International Women’s Day 2022

It’s been over a week since we held Cumbria’s International Women’s Day full-day event on 8^th March at North Lakes Hotel, and what a success it was!

Cumbria Chamber and partners celebrated the day by welcoming over 75 guests and gave attendees the opportunity to network with one another, learn from inspiring and informative workshops and hear from a panel of guest speakers from a range of backgrounds. The theme was ‘trailblazers’ to celebrate women who’ve been successful in rising to senior roles, particularly in male-dominated sectors.

In the morning attendees benefitted from 4 workshops:

Next Level Workshop – Are you ready to level up? With Laura Cadman Limited
The contributions of women to innovation – With Sarah Allison of University of Cumbria
How to run and manage a business: the legal landscape – with Jennifer Bell, Corporate Partner and Caroline Rayner, Employment Partner at Baines Wilson.
Is it time to talk about the menopause? With Joanne Holborn and Heather Bottomley from the Employment Team at Baines Wilson

We were joined by ITV Border’s Fiona Marley Paterson who interviewed some of our workshop hosts, guests and panellists on what unconscious women in business still face. The piece was featured on ITV Border News that evening, if you missed it you can watch the piece back below:

Attendees then had the opportunity to network over a delicious 2 course lunch and geared up for an afternoon panel discussion led by our own Suzanne Caldwell, MD of Cumbria Chamber and Joanne Holborn of Baines Wilson. The panel included:

Johanne Miller – Managing Director at Twoey
Jenny Bergstrom – Managing Director at Iggesund Paperboard
Dr Nat Lonsdale from Great North Air Ambulance Service
Darina Ward – Founder and Managing Director of Growthviser

The panel discussed their backgrounds and what led them to the success they experienced, turning points in their careers and at what point they saw themselves as ‘trailblazers’.
