Keswick Alhambra Cinema, Cinema Operator, Keswick

Job description:
The Keswick Alhambra Cinema (www.keswickalhambra.co.uk, FB keswickalhambra) is a family-owned and operated 108-year old gem of a traditional single-screen picturehouse in the centre of a beautiful Lake District town, with strong local support and a large visitor audience. Installing a second screen and creating a new foyer bar and ticketing office in the Spring/Summer of 2021 will hopefully enable us to bounce back strongly from the coronavirus lockdowns.

We are offering this placement in order to give a young person the chance to get hands-on experience working in a small, independent cinema, which will hopefully be interesting and fun, as well as providing you with the chance to display and develop a range of skills and experiences that will be transferable to any number of jobs in customer-facing businesses.

The role involves assisting the duty manager in a full range of cinema management tasks, as directed once trained up. This includes, but is not limited to: preparing the cinema for opening, checking for customer safety and comfort (routes clear, fire doors openable by the public, heating, lighting and projection and sound systems on); opening up; checking web bookings, issuing tickets to customers, selling drinks and snacks; taking credit card payments and bookings, starting the film programme; checking that customers are behaving responsibly; preparing records of ticket and sweet sales; ensuring that publicity items such as poster quads, flyers, synopses and posters are current, printing and changing where necessary, and clearing up the auditorium at the end of each performance.

Essential skills and requirements:
Customer-friendly. No experience necessary, but must be willing and able to cooperate with the Duty Manager as directed. Basic literacy, numeracy and computer skills required. Interest in cinema/film a bonus.

Working pattern:
25 hours. Flexible, to be agreed: the cinema is open 7 days a week, we would suggest working 4 or 5 days per week, weekdays and/or weekends. Shifts could be regular, or could vary, but generally afternoons and/or evenings.

Hourly rate of pay:
National Minimum Wage
