Introduction to Customs Import and Export Procedures – with Mark Rowbotham of Portcullis ISC – 11th February, Cumbria Chamber of Commerce, Carlisle

In line with global Customs initiatives as dictated by the WTO’s Trade Facilitation Agreement and the WCO’s SAFE Framework of Standards, HMRC are requiring all import/export traders to have suitably qualified or competent staff in their offices as part of ongoing Customs compliance requirements. In the light of global changes to Customs Import and Export regimes, this means that all traders involved in the import and/or export process must ensure total compliance with Customs regulations and regimes, and must have competent staff on their payroll.

Join Cumbria Chamber of Commerce and Mark Rowbotham of Portcullis ISC, on the 11th February 10am to 4pm at Cumbria Chamber of Commerce, Lowther Street, Carlisle to learn how to be able to show evidence of documented Customs Import/Export procedures, as well as clear audit trails concerning international trade and supply chain activities, right down to import and export documentation including Customs declarations.

In the light of the intended withdrawal of the UK from the EU, this requirement has become much more prevalent, with HMRC making increasing compliance checks on importers and exporters alike. The emphasis on Authorised Economic Operator status means that freight forwarders and shipping agencies will themselves have to become more compliant with Customs Procedures, as well as being approved by HMRC to handle simplified procedures for the movement and declaration of consignments moving between the UK and the EU and vice versa.

Ignorance of Customs practices is no excuse. In line with global changes in Customs practices and an increase in areas such as electronic procedures, compliance and Customs risk, all importers and exporters must be aware of Customs practices and requirements, and must ensure that their staff are fully trained and knowledgeable in these areas.

This 1-day course is designed to acquaint staff involved in import and/or export activities with basic Customs procedures, as well as the overall global changes to Customs management and procedures as implemented by the SAFE Framework, the UCC and the WTO’s Trade Facilitation Agreement.

The course will also enable traders to understand the implications of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, and plan for global changes in Customs practice and procedures.
