Brexit Planning with Mark Rowbotham of Portcullis – Online Training 26th November

The UK is preparing to leave the European Union, possibly without any form of Free Trade Agreement with the EU. The likelihood of concluding such an agreement prior to the UK’s exit from the EU Single Market at the end of 2020 is very slim. However, new Free Trade Agreements between the UK, Switzerland, Israel, Chile and many other countries are already prepared and are ready for implementation once the UK fully leaves the EU.

The UK must prepare for a period of the implementation of World Trade Organisation (WTO) tariffs with its European neighbours. A new set of import tariffs has been prepared and is ready for implementation once the UK leaves the EU. The good news is that many tariffs are already so low or even zero, that the overall effects of such a scenario are not greatly burdensome on the economies of either the UK or the EU. In any case, Excise Duties continue to apply as before, and Import VAT is reclaimed by VAT-registered companies in any case. Various Customs and VAT facilities enable companies to manage their import and export affairs using electronic facilities, without the need for cumbersome border controls.
